I often notice that in roleplay, players aren't always sure of what kind of roleplay goes where. Sometimes, plots seem to fall under more than one -- or none -- of the provided genre sections. Fantasy Roleplays

- a self-coherent, internally consistent setting
- inspirations from mythology and folklore
- themes of magic
- driven by an overall plot
Horror Roleplays
Features:
- provokes emotional, psychological, or physical reaction from the player
- forces players to acknowledge dark truths
- metaphoric horrors representing real-life conflicts
- a menace (i.e. monster, villain, murderer, etc)
- frequent Victorian settings
Slice of Life Roleplays
Features:
- no coherent plot, conflict, or ending
- driven by character development
- material that could actually happen
- possibility for real events, characters, or settings
- includes crime fiction and historical fiction
Semi-Realistic Roleplays
Features:
- magic that plays a minor role in the plot
- a "fantasy-leak" with a single minor fantasy element
- driven by character development
- no coherent plot, conflict, or ending
Fanfic Roleplays
Features:
- stories about unoriginal plots or settings
- based off of popular pieces of literature
- includes crossovers, alternate universes, alternate scenarios, canon characters, and OCs
